At his favorite lagoon in the jungle, the Saggy Baggy Elephant meets three ducklings who have wandered away from their mother. The ducklings ask Saggy if he'll be their mother til their own finds them and he reluctantly agrees. When he asks what duck mothers do, the little ones reply that she teaches them how to be ducks, so Saggy embarks on lessons in how to fly, swim and quack, all with comic results. At the end of the day, when the mother duck finds her children, Saggy feels sad that he hasn't done a very good job of teaching the young ones how to be ducks. The mother and children assure him that it's fine because the most important thing he did was to keep the ducklings safe. And anyway, as they show him, they already know how to quack, swim, and fly. Amazed, Saggy asks why they didn't tell him so. They reply that he never asked and that it was fun to watch him try to be a mother duck.
